Joseph experienced several situations that humanly would be labeled as tragic. However, by faith he was able to see God's hand in everything that happened. In the emotional reunion with his brothers, three times Joseph stated that God had sent him in order to provide deliverance (Gen 45:5-8). Later, when Jacob died and the brothers were fearful, Joseph reassured them with the statement: "You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good" (Gen. 49:20). The teaching of Scripture is that God is always at work, sometimes directly, but often behind the scenes.
